National Clinical Informatics Lead – Public and NHS Wales e-Library Service Lead
I began my career as Abstractor/Indexer at the King’s Fund in London then finished there as Assistant Technical Services Librarian. I spent 21 years at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board in South East Wales, and its predecessor organisations as Strategic Health Evidence Manager and previously as Library Services Manager at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport.
I have been working at the NHS Wales Informatics Service since 2008 with two roles. The first is as National Clinical Informatics Lead – Public, where I work with public and patients, NHS Wales and technical teams to develop a patient portal to access NHS Wales information and resources, and a personalised patient platform. I am keen that the public have access to up to date, accurate, relevant and easily accessible information about services in NHS Wales to help them to find out about and cope with their conditions, and co-produce their care with their health and care professionals.
Since 2016 I am also Service Lead for the e-Library which means I am responsible for managing the team and budget as well as considering the strategic direction of the service. I am Chair of the e-Library Service Board and am really excited that we are able to provide more e-resources to all NHS Wales staff, contractors and students and that supporting professionals links in with my other role in providing good information for patients. It feels great that this role has come full circle as I was Chair of the original HOWIS (Health of Wales Information Service) Knowledge Base Group procuring the very first databases and e-journals over 17 years ago!
