All other existing databases remain unchanged. Please visit https://elh.nhs.wales/databases/ to see the full coverage of subscribed and freely available databases to all NHS Wales users.

Allied & Complimentary Medicine AMED

From January 2026 this database will now only be available to users through either Proquest platform or Dialog platform, both managed by Clarivate. The supplier is supporting the transition by providing access from November 2025.

AMED is a bibliographic database covering alternative and allied therapies and related subjects. It is produced in-house at the British Library and currently hosted on the Wolters Kluwer OVID platform until 31 December 2025. It includes a range of international titles. Coverage dates from 1985 to the present and is updated with new content monthly.

The NHS Wales e-Library are working with suppliers to support the “translation” of searches and alerts so that users can continue use this database confidently from its new location. Learning and training opportunities will also be made available in November and December 2025.

If you have specific queries about translating your existing searches, please send your query to elibrary@wales.nhs.uk so that we can support you with this process.

ASSIA

From January 2026, this database will be the only remaining database from the Sociology Collection. There are no changes to platform in this database.

Containing records from 19 countries, the Applied Social Sciences Index & Abstracts database covers social sciences, counselling, policing and social work referencing articles on social issues, poverty, addiction, crime, violence, discrimination, inequality and more.

It is updated monthly.

British Nursing Index and British Nursing Database

These databases will continue to be available both from Proquest and Dialog platforms, however it will be renamed to the British Nursing Collection.

BNI is a bibliographic database that indexes articles from English language nursing journals published primarily in the UK. It is a comprehensive index covering all aspects of nursing, midwifery and community healthcare from 1985 to the present. It is updated monthly.

The BND is the full-text version of the bibliographic database British Nursing Index. It covers the practice, education, and research literature for nurses, midwives, health care support workers and health providers in the UK and the greater nursing community. Literature covers titles published in the UK, Australia and Canada, plus a selection of other international nursing titles dating back to 1993.

CINHAL with Full Text

From January 2026, users will have access to CINAHL with Full Text as opposed to CINAHL Plus with Full Text. There is no change to the content indexed in the database, only the number of full text journals available which after careful review of the usage data should have minimal impact on end users.

Users can continue to access CINAHL in the same way.

The supplier EBSCO  is currently transitioning customers to a new user interface and there are plans for NHS Wales to transition in July 2026. More communications around the transition will be made over the coming months.

CINAHL Plus® with Full Text is a full-text database and encompasses the subjects of nursing, biomedicine, health sciences librarianship, alternative/complementary medicine, consumer health and allied health disciplines. It also contains care sheets, education modules, research instruments records, standards of practice, and educational software. It is updated weekly and carries records of journals dating back to the 1930s. Much of the content is from North America, but it does index many UK journals.

Public Health Database

This is a new database for NHS Wales and will be made available from November 2025 to support stakeholders with familiarising themselves with the content and functionality. Learning and training sessions will be scheduled for January 2026.
