CINAHL with full-text is changing from 18th June 2026

NHS Wales e-Library access to CINAHL with Full-Text will have a new User Interface (UI) from 18th June 2026.

From June 2026, users will have access to both the ‘classic’ and ‘new’ versions, allowing time to adjust to the new system. Please note that if you have an existing personal account and any saved searches, these will automatically be available in the new UI and there is no requirement for you to recreate saved searches. The classic version will cease access on 14th July 2026

What is the new CINAHL UI?

Many academic institutions worldwide have already moved to the new interface. Recognising the demands of clinical and systematic searching, the platform has been developed to meet the rigorous methods used in health and care settings. As a dynamic system, it will be regularly updated with new features to enhance the search experience.

When will I notice changes?

On 18th  June 2026, access to the new UI will be extended to all users of the NHS Wales e-Library. There will be a transition period where both systems will be running side by side.

What training is planned?

We will initially prioritise training for frequent CINAHL users who would benefit from extra support during the transition. Further introductory CINAHL with Full Text webinars will be offered in subsequent months.

You said “dynamic,” what does that mean?

Many of our suppliers are moving to platforms that are updated and developed more frequently, so users may notice changes over time. We ask all suppliers to give the e‑Library at least six weeks’ notice of major updates and to provide appropriate training. You can stay informed about upcoming changes and training opportunities by joining the e‑Library’s training and events mailing list.

I’ve never really used CINAHL much before, will I notice a difference?

The new platform has been designed to support modern improvements and provide a better overall user experience. If you have ideas or notice areas where the platform could be improved, the developers welcome feedback. You’re also very welcome to share your comments or suggestions by emailing elibrary@wales.nhs.uk.

A big “diolch yn fawr iawn”

The NHS Wales e‑Library has worked closely with expert searchers across NHS Wales who regularly use CINAHL and have been actively involved in testing the new system over the past year. Their expertise and feedback have been invaluable, helping developers identify key improvements to ensure the platform is accessible, intuitive, and confidence‑building for users of all experience levels.

We would like to sincerely thank all colleagues who have contributed throughout this process and who have worked in partnership with the development team to enhance the user experience, with the needs of health and care professionals and NHS Wales users at the forefront.
